79-year-old Hollywood actor Robert De Niro was the victim of 30-year-old serial robber Shanice Aviles. A woman broke into a celebrity's Upper East Side penthouse in New York and tried to steal gifts from under his Christmas tree, according to The New York Post.
At the time of the incident, the actor was sleeping upstairs, and during this time it was his 11-year-old daughter.
The NYPD officers were chasing Aviles at approximately 3 a.m. as she climbed into De Niro's seven-bedroom townhouse on East 65th Street. They watched her enter the house and followed her inside. Law enforcement officers discovered that the criminal tried to steal De Niro's gifts and put them in a bag, and also used the star's iPad.
The owner of the house woke up from the noise and went downstairs in a bathrobe. He was shocked by what he saw, but the police assured him that everything was under control. It is unknown if Aviles knew this was the celebrity's residence.
The serial thief has already been wanted for a number of other burglaries, and before that she was arrested 26 times.
The actor did not comment on what happened. The daughter who was with him is a child from the marriage of the actor with his second wife, Grace Hightower. The couple broke up in 2021, but both parents take care of the girl.
