Series of’ arrests related to drug trafficking in Mont&érégie

Those arrested could notably face charges of conspiracy and possession of prohibited weapons.

Police officers from the Montérégie Regional Mixed Squad proceeded on Wednesday to #x27;dawn, to a series of arrests in connection with a drug trafficking network that carried out its activities in the Maskoutains region.

People we arrested could face [charges of] conspiracy, possession of prohibited weapons, possession of weapons fire, said Catherine Bernard, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, on the airwaves of ICI RDI.

We are also talking about drug trafficking and certain charges in connection with the Cannabis Act, she added.

Thirty organized crime police officers had been investigating this file since June 2020. Three phases of searches took place in recent years.

Ms Bernard did not specify the number of those arrested, stressing that the operation was still ongoing. However, she indicated that several of these arrests had been made in the Saint-Hyacinthe region.

The investigation was taking place within the framework of the Quebec strategy CENTAURE to fight against gun violence.

Those arrested are expected to appear this afternoon at the Montreal courthouse.
