Series of searches by Fisheries and Océans Canada in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region

An investigation spanning several years is behind these searches (archives).

The Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) conducted several searches last Thursday in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region in connection with an investigation into a potential network poaching in the area.

The Ministry confirms that an investigation by the Directorate of Conservation and Protection has conducted these interventions.

A dozen officers were dispatched to various locations in Bas-Saint-Laurent that cannot be disclosed by DFO due to the nature of the the ongoing investigation.

Fish, a boat and fishing equipment were seized in the various locations targeted by the officers.

The investigation, which began a few years ago, focuses on what appears to be an illegal fishing network in the Bas-Saint-Laurent, according to the head of the conservation sector and the Ministry protection for Gaspésie—Bas-Saint-Laurent and the Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Jean-François Sylvestre.

No charges have yet been filed in connection with of this survey.
