The area around a house in Fort Myers, Florida turned into a scene from the movie Hurricane Ian, one of the strongest hurricanes, hit the coast of the US state. The video was posted on Twitter.
In the video, a certain creature rushes about in the water, and a characteristic fin can be seen on the surface of the lawn flooded with water. Locals have nicknamed the mysterious fish the “street shark”.
In a day, the video has gained more than 12 million views on Twitter. Users were surprised and at the same time expressed doubts about whether it was really a shark due to the frequent memes and fake videos of sharks.
Professional fact-checkers from the news agency Storyful and The The Associated Press has reviewed the post's metadata and confirmed that the video is indeed a shark.
“After five years of I had to disprove fake videos of sharks that appeared after another hurricane or flood, in front of me is really a street shark,” journalist Jane Litvinenko said.
AP employees doubt whether it is a shark or some other big fish. The recording shows a fin, but this is the only thing that indicates a marine predator. Representatives of the agency refer to the words of two experts, one of whom said that it seems to be a young shark, and, according to the other, it is difficult to say with certainty what it is.
