Tuesday, December 24, 2024, in an interview with Maïtena Biraben, for her media outlet Mesdames, the journalist regretted that her mother had hidden her illness from her for so long. Indeed, it was only at the end that she learned that her mother only had a few days left. “She hid it from my sister, my brother and I. It's extremely difficult, very honestly”, she confided.

In complete transparency, the former star of the Magazine de la santé explained : “I know why she did it, first because she was very modest and because her total fear was that she would one day lose her mind. I think that when she found out she was sick, six months before her death, she said to herself phew, I'm not going to die of something that won't be Alzheimer's. And her only fear, I think, was that she would be forbidden from not getting treatment, because she didn't want to get treatment”.
If she understands her mother, Marina Carrère d’Encausse is still angry with him. “Where I am angry with her on the one hand is because she didn't know me well in that case because I would never have pushed her to get treatment because I fully understand the path she has taken. But I could still have been there when she needed to take tests and then because we wouldn't have had these last six months like this”, she explained.

Despite considering herself lucky, the former sidekick of Michel Cymes explained then: “Luckily, we were lucky that she called us a week before her death, telling us I'm going into palliative care now, if you can come home”, before adding: “I was able to tell her that she should have told me about it, we were able to talk about a lot of things, it's quite an astonishing moment”.
In March 2024, on the set of Vivement Dimanche, Marina Carrère d’Encausse had already émentioned her grief. While her father died four months after her mother, the latter had indicated: “Being an orphan, no matter how old you are, it's extremely complicated, to lose both parents like that, in four months, and to no longer have this family, this us that existed”. However, the journalist can count on the support of her children and grandchildren.
