According to the government, the shelling was the second in a week. It is blamed on criminal gangs.
Kosovo police reported. that on August 6, at about 11:25 local time, a police unit of the Zubin Potok Border Guard was fired at on the border with Serbia. The incident occurred on Lake Ujman, the attackers targeted a patrol boat.
“There were about 10 shots,” the police said. “No one was hurt.”
The Rapid Response Team of the Border Police quickly moved to help the police unit. Police officers continue to monitor the area and promise that they will continue to fight crime, paying particular attention to smuggling in the area.
Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti also commented on the incident.
“This is the second time in less than a week that the Kosovo police have been attacked by criminal gangs in the northern part of our territory, after just six days after the incidents on Sunday,” the prime minister emphasized, “fortunately, we avoided casualties, and a full investigation is underway.”
When the unrest began, the Kosovo special forces blocked the border, and the Serbian security forces began to pull troops to the border. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that the Kosovo army was going to attack his country on the night of August 1 and assured that his country was able to repel the military threat.
