On January 11, 2025, a little boy died after a sledding accident in North Carolina. Five people were injured while trying to save him from the ice of the pond he had fallen into.

A family outing turned into a nightmare. On Saturday, a child died in North Carolina, United States, after a tragic sledding accident, reports CBS 17.

Falling into an icy pool

The child’s mother, grandmother, and another child were spending the afternoon at Stoney Creek Golf Club in Whitsett Township. A snowstorm had swept through the area the day before, and the golf course was covered in a layer of powder snow that was perfect for play.

However, while rolling down a small hill, the little boy lost control of his sled and fell into a frozen pond. The child quickly disappeared under the ice, and witnesses rushed to his aid.

Died in hospital

Despite their intervention, they were unable to find the child before the emergency services arrived and the little boy spent long minutes in the icy water. He was rushed to the hospital but died a few hours later.

In addition, five people who tried to help the victim in the frozen pond were also admitted to the emergency room. Including a member of the child's family, who was suffering from hypothermia.

An investigation was opened by the county sheriff to shed light on this tragedy. The child's identity, as well as his age, have not been revealed.
