Slovenian FM says when EU should start negotiations with Kyiv

Tanya Fayon stressed that the process of starting Ukraine's accession can take a long time, and if there is the will of the EU and the desire of Ukraine, it will be very fast.

Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanya Fayon believes that the European Union should start negotiations with Ukraine on its accession to the EU after it fulfills the seven criteria of the European Commission. This is reported by European Truth.

“First of all, there is a list of things that you must do, starting with the judicial reform and other reforms. You must prove it before you take the next step. And this is normal a process based on the achievements of your country… But if you did, and if the EU recognized it, then the EU will be obliged to fulfill its promise,” Fayon said in an interview with the publication.

It is noted that there is no direct obligation in the EU documents to start negotiations with Ukraine after fulfilling the criteria of the European Commission, but Fayon stressed that the process of starting Ukraine's accession can take a long time, and if there is the will of the EU and the desire of Ukraine, it will be very fast.

“It would be a mistake to wait, what I'm going to say now is that the EU over time will remain united on this issue as it is now. I hope that we will have political will and strength, and when Ukraine has done its job – we will have a consensus in order to make our promise a reality” – added the minister R.

Earlier it was reported that BP approved measures to adapt legislation to EU requirements .
