Are we really threatened with a lack of sugar?
As reported by the portal” Wirtualna Polska “, recently sugar is a product that disappears from grocery stores quite quickly. Some stores even decided to introduce limits on the purchase of this product. Rafał Strachota from the Krajowy Związek Plantator & oacute; w Buraka Cukrowego emphasizes that we have not had to deal with such panic for over a decade. As he predicts, even if things slowly start to calm down, prices are unlikely to return to their former levels.
Sugar prices go up
The prices of sugar produced this season will increase. An expert associated with the sugar industry indicates that the price of sugar beet in a kilogram package of sugar has so far been 0.80 groszy. Unfortunately, this season, which will start in September, may even increase to PLN 1.50.
Last year simplifying sugar beet received 22 euro per ton of sugar beet. This year it is already 40 euros. Experts have no doubts that the price of sugar will not return to the levels known to us so far, although many of them do not undertake to estimate the price per kilogram of the finished product.
Sugar disappears from shop boxes
Many specialists point out that the panic over the massive buying of sugar by customers has no rational explanation. We dealt with a similar situation 11 years ago. At the time, the price of a kilogram of sugar reached PLN 6, now it is even PLN 9. Experts have no doubt that sooner or later the demand will fall, and so will the price.
Poles began to buy sugar en masse after information appeared that stores lack this product. Some retail chains decided to introduce a purchase limit – Biedronki and Netto stores decided to take such a step.
