Sonos could be entering a whole new market: TV boxes for video streaming. Rumors have been circulating about the development of this product for a while now. And recently, our colleagues at The Verge published an article that reveals some additional information about the project. First of all, the Sonos box, codenamed Pinewood, would not be affordable. According to The Verge, this product, codenamed Pinewood, would be marketed in a few months at a price between $200 and $400 in the United States.
A box optimized for Sonos products
The device would have a discreet design, with a square shape. It would be based on Android and one of the pluses that Sonos would like to bring would be the interface, which should be elegant. Sonos would also have developed a universal search system that would group all the contents of the user's different accounts on streaming services. The remote control would have the Sonos voice control system, as well as buttons for the different streaming platforms.
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000Otherwise, Sonos would offer a feature that allows the box to be used as an HDMI switch. This way, you can connect multiple devices, such as a video game console or a Blu-Ray player, to it. But the most important thing is that this box will be optimized for the company's soundbars and other products, in order to allow the user to have a bug-free and perfectly synchronized audio experience. In addition, if you own several Sonos products, it is possible that you can use them to set up a surround sound system. And, in terms of connectivity, the box would support Wi-Fi 7.
A new beginning ?
As usual, this information should be taken with a grain of salt, as long as it is not official. On the other hand, The Verge article explains that, since the product is still in development, some of the features mentioned may be missing from the final version.
Nevertheless, it is important to point out that these rumors about a Sonos TV box are circulating while the company is still struggling. This January, Patrick Spence, also left his position as CEO at Sonos.
