Questioned by the deputy Jean-François Rousset on the South Aveyron hospital project, the Minister responsible for Health committed to supporting this strategic project, nevertheless conceding “adjustments” to complete the financing estimated at 90 million euros.

“Mr. Minister, is the State fully mobilized to meet these needs? ?” During an oral question session at the National Assembly on January 21, the deputy for the 3rd constituency of Aveyron questioned the Minister for Health and Access to Healthcare Yannick Neuder on the mobilization of the State to advance the project of a new hospital in South Aveyron.

“Thanks to the 2024 health budget, we obtained nearly 100 million euros to build a joint hospital by grouping together the healthcare provision of South Aveyron”, recalled the deputy who is counting on the establishment, which is scheduled to open in 2028-2029, to optimize the “medical attractiveness” of the territory. For the South Aveyron parliamentarian, “the emergency” nevertheless requires “immediate actions”.

“Adapting to the geographical reality of the territory”

“We need, first of all, the guarantee that all regulatory procedures related to this project move forward without delay, for example to ensure the issuance of the building permit. Then, a dual attachment of this hospital to the Toulouse and Montpellier university hospitals, an essential condition to accelerate recruitment and adapt to the geographical reality of our territory.”

Requirements to which the Minister of Health responded favorably. “The government is fully committed to supporting this strategic project […] uan essential response to the challenges faced by the health establishments of Millau and Saint-Affrique, faced with structural difficulties, in particular dilapidated facilities, a declining medical attractiveness, and degraded financial situations”.

South Aveyron Hospital: Health Minister assures government support but recommends "financial adjustments"

“Providing residents with modern hospital infrastructure”

Ready to “closely monitor each step” with “the shared desire to offer residents a modern hospital infrastructure, attractive to health professionals, and focused on the needs of the population”, the minister announced an upcoming change.

By 2026, the current intermediate steering structure (health cooperation group of resources) will be transformed into a “health establishment group” facilitating pooling between the medical teams of the two sites.

Its role: “to structure non-redundant care channels, adapted to the needs of the territory. This includes the development of specialized medicine, the strengthening of geriatric care, the surgery, and a consolidated emergency offer.”

“Financial adjustments” to be expected

Before the next meeting of the steering committee at the end of March, which should be attended – for the first time – by representatives of users and staff, a selection jury will be convened on January 29 to validate the selected proposals and “ensure budgetary control of the project”. Today's topic.

Because if the dedicated envelope of 80 million euros, including 71 million euros from the State and 9 million from the Region, is now “sanctified” notably recalled the ARS, the estimated cost of the project is now estimated at 90 million euros. Thus for the minister, “financial adjustments” will be necessary. Like “savings on logistics channels” as well as “discussions with local authorities for the financing of road connections and sanitation.”
