Baby Yoda has captured the hearts of fans in The Mandalorian. Behind this ultra-cute face hides a tragic story, we explain.
Baby Yoda is undoubtedly a clever creation by Disney to reach an even wider audience. It's also a way to use the image of Yoda, very popular with Star Wars fans, while introducing new possibilities. As soon as he arrived in The Mandalorian, Baby Yoda panicked on social networks. There are countless memes and posts related to the character. In the series, we finally discover, not without surprise, that his real name is Grogu. Thanks to his connection with Ahsoka, Grogu is able to reveal more about his story. For the audience, it's a chance to start discovering that the very cute Baby Yoda also hides a tragic history (and probably a future).
Baby Yoda, as we discover in The Mandalorian, received Jedi training. He was raised and educated on Coruscant, at the Jedi Temple. It is precisely this emblematic place in the history of Star Wars that has been the subject of a bloody episodesuggested in Episode III. Following the outbreak of Order 66, Anakin himself, under the influence of Palpatine, will eliminate all the young Jedi apprentices, refugees in the temple. According to the saga's timeline, it seems more than likely that Baby Yoda was there at the time. The mystery remains, for now, as to how he was able to escape the massacre. Jocasta Nu or Shaak Ti may have been involved in rescuing several Jedi apprentices. This is a point that the series will eventually be able to clarify.
Is Baby Yoda destined for a very dark fate?
Baby Yoda, in The Book of Boba Fett, will train with Luke Skywalker and Ahsoka. He will also show a very high potential in mastering the Force. It is also one of the elements that justifies the Empire seeking to seize it, rather than simple destruction. In the last episodes of the saga, however, no mention of Baby Yoda. Where could he have gone? Fan theories are pretty grim on this. One of them suggests that Kylo Ren killed him, in his quest to eliminate all of Luke Skywalker's students. Another, even darker, is based on elements of the series that tend to show a connection between Baby Yoda and the sinister Snoke. Baby Yoda's blood could thus be the basis for the creation of Palpatine's imperfect clone. Not really Disney all that, though!
