The Sunwing company gives wings to Windsor airport

Windsor Airport.

Since the beginning of November, the number of travelers has steadily increased at Windsor International Airport, so much so that attendance is not far from approaching pre-pandemic levels, notes its CEO, Mark Galvin.

The return of Sunwing to Windsor is no stranger to the phenomenon. Since mid-November, it has offered weekly flights to Varadero. From December, connections to Cancún, Cayo Coco and Santa Clara will be added.

This is great news for travelers in the region, according to Mark Galvin.

This is really important for Windsor and for surrounding areas to have those choices and to be able to fly directly from Windsor is very convenient, he says.

Mark Galvin hopes that the rise in attendance will continue to reach the levels of before the pandemic.

According to him, the resumption of travel shows that people want a change of scenery after two years of health crisis.

I think people are ready to go, to escape the winter climate and go to sunny destinations, he says.

“I would say we are going back to the pre-pandemic program.

Mr. Galvin recalls that Windsor airport also offers flights to the United States, including Flair, which has just launched a service to Tucson, Arizona.

We see a lot of people traveling to visit family and to do business over the Christmas holidays, Galvin notes.

It's not just #x27;at Windsor airport that we notice the return of travelers.

Melanie Harding, of the travel agency Valente Travel, in Windsor, notes also that the number of reservations is skyrocketing.

Since the addition of Sunwing flights, reservations have tripled, she says.

“It's 10:42 a.m. right now and I've already made six reservations at Windsor today.

The more than tempting offers contribute largely to this enthusiasm, according to her.

Prices are under $1000 in most cases right now. We're seeing a lot of great deals, she points out.

“It's going to be a great season for anyone who come from Windsor. Even our neighbors in the United States take advantage of these flights. People are very excited and respond very well to that.

— Melanie Harding

In the long term, she hopes direct flights to new destinations will be added from Windsor. However, she is well aware that everything will depend on the success of this season.
