Ivan Drago was a character in the movie “Rocky 4” and fought with Rocky Balboa, who was created and played by Stallone

1990s action star Dolph Lungdgren will return as boxer Ivan Drago from the cult film Rocky 4. However, it turned out that the creation of a new spinoff from MGM was not agreed with Sylvester Stallone. The Daily Mail writes about this.

It was Stallone who created Rocky Balboa, the hero of the Rocky films. For writing the script for the first film and for his role in it, Stallone was nominated for an Oscar in 1977.

Ivan Drago, nicknamed the “Siberian Bull”, appears in the movie “Rocky 4”, kills Rocky's friend Apollo Creed in the ring and then goes into battle with Balboa himself, where he is defeated. After that, he appeared in the sequel and spinoff “Creed 2”.

And now the creators of the “Creed” franchise, which, in turn, is a spinoff of the series of films about the boxer Rocky Balboa, decided to expand their “movie universe”. The new film will focus on the figure of the Soviet boxer Ivan Drago.

The film will be written by Robert Lawton, who worked on a documentary about the creation of the first part of the Rocky franchise, and produced by Irwin Winkler and his sons.

Sylvester Stallone has already reacted to plans to make a new film, to which he will not have nothing to do with it.

“Another vulture! Just found out that Irwin Winkler, a pathetic 94-year-old producer and his vulture children, Charles and David, are ripping to the bone a wonderful character that I created, even without telling me about it,” Stallone wrote. And he said that he was offended by Lundgren, whom he considered his friend.

“Once I respected Dolph, but he never told me about what was happening behind my back with the character that I created for him ! True friends are worth more than gold and they don't do that!” Stallone summed up.

Dolph Lundgren has already replied to Stallone, saying that there is no approved script, deals and director yet. And he himself was misled into thinking that Stallone was aware of plans for a new film. They have already figured out all the troubles and are still friends.
