The regime of Bashar al-Assad decided to terminate diplomatic relations with Kyiv in response to a similar step by the Ukrainian authorities.
Syria will soon break off diplomatic relations with Ukraine. This was reported by the SANA agency with reference to a source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Syria.
“The Syrian Arab Republic has decided to break off diplomatic relations with Ukraine in accordance with the principle of reciprocity and in response to the decision of the government of Ukraine on this matter,” – the publication of journalists says.
Note that at the end of June, the Ukrainian side was the first to announce the severance of diplomatic relations with Syria against the background of the decision of the leadership of this country to recognize the pro-Russian “republics” – “DNR” and “LNR” – on the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation.
Note that a Russian military contingent is stationed in Syria. The Russian Federation, together with Iran, supports the regime of Bashar al-Assad, supplying him with weapons. Before that, Syria recognized the Crimean peninsula occupied by Russian troops as part of the Russian Federation.
In April 2018, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry expressed solidarity with the United States, Great Britain and France in connection with the coalition's strike on Syria in response to the use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime in the city of Duma.
