Bertrand Guerrero et Roland Sanchez souhaitent faire parler de l’asthme.
Created on the principle of the Grippotour, the Asthmotour will meet the public in the health centers of the Béziers Méditerranée urban area. With the sponsorship of athletes such as Béziers rugby player Clément Ancely, the goal is to get people talking about asthma.
“Talking about asthma is important, one in ten people in France is asthmatic”, emphasizes Dr. Guerrero, a pulmonologist at the Béziers hospital center and the originator of the Asthmotour. An initiative launched last October, at the Béziers hospital.
“The Asthmotour, like the Grippotour (which raises awareness about vaccination against the flu), it is a collective of totally voluntary caregivers, very varied, who decided to “drop” the blouse and the artifices of the caregiver to go to people in order to talk about asthma, explain, exchange clearly and simply,” details the Béziers pulmonologist.

To do this, under the direction of Rolland Sanchez, the president of the collective, the Béziers caregivers wanted to embody their project. They therefore attracted personalities such as Clément Ancely, the second row of the ASBH, or Damian Penaud, French international rugby union player, or the Angels of Béziers, to sponsor their association because “the DNA of our commitment is exemplarity”.
With this in mind of democratizing breathing, Bertrand Guerrero wishes to offer an “Acute Asthma Kit”.“The idea is to manage a crisis by grouping together the resources, for simple, clear and optimal use for everyone, he says. It would be a pouch that would be present everywhere, just like the defibrillator. It would contain a peak flow meter, an oximeter, a mini inhalation chamber; a mini battery-powered aerosol, a proper use sheet.” A device currently being created that should be released soon.
The Asthmotour will meet with the health centers of the Béziers Méditerranée Agglomeration next May. The launch will take place around May 7, for World Asthma Day. “We will go to meet the doctors, do free consultations and see the pharmacists, smiles the Béziers pulmonologist. The goal is to get people talking about asthma, it's important.”
A rapprochement with Project Rescue Ocean
Shortly after its creation, the Asthmotour approached the Béziers association Project Rescue Ocean and its president Benoît Schumann. “Asthma is the disease of the century, it is triggered and maintained by current issues: the climate, pollution, allergies, humidity, tobacco, stress. We are therefore perfectly in our place, indicates Dr. Guerrero. The discarded cigarette butt takes five years to degrade and is capable of polluting 500 liters of water, we can imagine its impact on the irritated bronchi of our asthmatics… Combating the harmful effects on the environment means improving breathing and healing the wounds of the respiratory tract, everything is connected!"
