Téji Savanier should pair up with Andy Delort until the end of the season. Midi Libre – ALEXANDRE DIMOU
Iconic playmaker Téji Savanier is not indifferent to the approach of Saudi club Al-Taawoun, while Jean-Louis Gasset is doing everything to keep him until the end of the season. “I am happy that Téji Savanier is staying”, said Montpellier's new striker Andy Delort.
“I'm glad he's staying”, says Andy Delort, who obviously spoke with “his friend” Téji Savanier, before returning to Montpellier, three and a half years after his departure. While president Laurent Nicollin is satisfied with the striker's return, the Paillade playmaker is still hesitant. “You'll see”, says the child of the Cité Gély this Wednesday, January 29 in Grammont.
At the end of the transfer window, which closes on the evening of February 3, the Montpellier playmaker, aged 33 and tied until 2026, is wondering about the rest of his career. Approached by the Saudi club Al-Taawoun, according to various media, Téji Savanier, the club's highest earner (210,000 euros), considered leaving during the season. At the very least, he would have put a foot in the doorway opened by the Hérault club, faced with a financial crisis.

Coach Jean-Louis Gasset is putting on the brakes and all his energy to preserve his number ten, who is back in form and has been influential since the winter break. And clarifies in two stages the club's position on Savanier, but also on other attractive elements, such as Joris Chotard or Mousa Tamari.
“That sirens arrive to sound to recover one of our good players, that's one thing. But, everyone has to be happy: the club and the player. It's easy to contact a player and tell him: we're offering you this, but the player has a contract. People jump the line as if it were a done deal. That's not the truth”, says Jean-Louis Gasset, while laying down the club's conditions.
“Anything can happen”
The experienced technician, Montpellier's spokesperson, also expects Téji Savanier to be patient until the end of the season. “Teji, who is 33, has time to go towards a club's dazzling offer. We can fulfill the mission of leaving Montpellier where it should be, and then be a little more selfish.”
Nevertheless, Montpellier, and more particularly its coach exposed to the front row, will be worried until February 4. “A lot of players are upset. Anything can happen. There could be a huge offer for one of our players. I expect it. I hope I'll have enough time to find a solution that won't penalize us sportingly”, warns Jean-Louis Gasset. Who won't really be sure of keeping Téji Savanier at the beginning of next week.
