Agreement in principle for Unifor in the Resolute sawmills

The agreement concerns members of the Unifor union, which is affiliated with the FTQ.

An agreement in principle has been reached regarding the renewal of collective agreements for some 1,000 employees who work at eight Resolute Forest Products sawmills in Quebec.

The agreement concerns members of the Unifor union, which is affiliated with the FTQ.

The sawmills concerned are those of Comtois, Girardville, La Doré, Maniwaki, Mistassini, Normandin, Saint-Thomas and Outardes.

These 1 000 employees will now be called upon to vote on the agreement in principle which was reached during general meetings which will take place in the coming days. The results of the votes will be known on July 22, Unifor reported on Friday.

The contents of the tentative agreement have not been disclosed, the Unifor union by keeping the scoop for its members.

The practice in this area is that each union begins by settling the local clauses specific to its plant. Common terms, such as wages, are then negotiated at the central table between the big union Unifor and the company that has been designated – Resolute Forest Products, in this case.

Thereafter, this work contract will serve as a model for negotiating with other sawmills.

The parties had met in Dolbeau since last Sunday to negotiate this agreement in principle.
