In Germany, on December 28, police detained a Tesla driver who was sleeping while driving on the autobahn at a speed of more than 100 km/h. He activated the autopilot and leaned back in his chair for a short nap. This incident was reported on the Autoevolution portal.
Incidents with sleeping owners of Tesla electric vehicles quite often occur around the world. The company even had to make it harder to fool the autopilot. It is no longer possible to place weights on the steering wheel to fool the driver's hand control system.
The Bavarian police shared that they had to stop the Tesla driver around noon local time. The police attempted to conduct a road check, but the driver did not follow the instructions given to him. After 15 minutes, the driver managed to wake up. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
The 45-year-old driver showed signs of drug intoxication. When inspecting the electric car, they found a weight for the steering wheel.
The police warned other Tesla owners that these electric cars are not completely autonomous. They can keep the lane and keep track of the distance between cars, but they need to be controlled on their own.
