As he informs portal “Interia”, 71-year-old Mr. Włodzimierz was convinced that after meeting all the statutory criteria, he no longer had to pay the RTV subscription. He did not hide his surprise when he received a request for payment of PLN 1,651 from the Polish Post. Why did this happen?

They thought they didn't have to pay anymore

Mrs. Barbara and Mr. Włodzimierz in an interview with “Interia” emphasized that they paid the TV license, but in the end they convinced the neighbors that they did not have to do it. However, they did not decide to deregister the receiver because, as they say, they had no idea that it was necessary.

In July this year, Mr. Włodzimierz received a letter in which Poczta Polska informed that he was in arrears with the RTV license fee from the beginning of 2017 to June this year. Their total amount is PLN 1,651.51. The couple was surprised. As they indicated, they were convinced that after meeting all the conditions provided for by law, they would be released from paying the subscription fee.

“We were convinced that the Polish Post had this information. If this backlog was for even earlier years, when the husband was not included in the released group, we would understand,” said Barbara, quoted by “Interia”.

Mail is replying

The man sent a letter to Poczta Polska, asking for cancellation of the arrears due to the fact that he meets the statutory criteria. In October, the man received a reply from Poczta Polska, in which officials inform him that the exemption from the subscription is not automatic and everyone must report a change in their status entitling them to exemption from charges.

The couple turned to to the Polish Post Office with a request to write off the arrears or to divide it into installments. Unfortunately, in a letter from the state operator, they received information that no law does not provide for such a possibility. Such a possibility is available only to the National Broadcasting Council, to which such a request should be submitted.
