The amount of the funeral grant has not changed in 11 years. Is it likely to be raised in the near future

As reported by the portal” Money “, an increase in the funeral allowance may be one of the topics that will emerge in the upcoming election campaign. For 11 years, the amount of the benefit has not increased, invariably amounting to PLN 4,000. Will this be the case soon?

Burials and inflation

In recent months, we have been dealing with high inflation, which was also affected by the funeral industry. The rising prices of burial are influenced not only by the increase in gas fees (necessary in the cremation process) or electricity, but also by rising labor costs.

The journalists of “Gazeta Wyborcza”, analyzing internet forums, indicate that the cost of purchasing a coffin reaches over PLN 3,000, plus a fee for the presence of a priest or master of ceremonies, which involves an expense of PLN 600 to even PLN 1,300 . This simple calculation shows that the amount of the benefit may not be sufficient for these two elements.

Application for an increase in funeral grant

The Polish Alliance of Trade Unions applied to the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy to increase the amount of the funeral grant. They postulated that it should amount to 200 percent of the average monthly salary that was in force at the time of the death of the person to whom the allowance is paid.

In response to the request, the ministry assured that work is currently underway to raise the amount of the funeral allowance so that on the one hand it is the amount that actually takes into account the funeral costs, and on the other hand, the financial capacity of the state budgets and the Social Insurance Fund.
