The candidate of the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) in Rivière-du-Loup–Témiscouata, Amélie Dionne, says that it is wrong to believe that one of her party's strategies to win the election of October 3 is to avoid debate.
The CAQ is still the favorite in the polls, and since the start of the election campaign in the province, many debates have been shunned by the candidates of this party, while these absences have become rarer among candidates from other political parties. , according to a non-exhaustive review by Radio-Canada.
Like other CAQ candidates across the province who refused to participate in certain debates, Amélie Dionne was not present at the one organized by Radio-Canada in Rivière-du-Loup last Thursday. His fellow candidate in Rimouski, Maïté Blanchette-Vézina, was also conspicuous by her absence during a debate on the theme of the environment which took place Friday at the Cégep de Rimouski.
Four candidates in the riding of Rivière-du-Loup–Témiscouata took part in a debate organized by Radio-Canada, namely those of Québec solidaire, the Liberal Party, the Parti Québécois and the Conservative Party (archives).
Amélie Dionne, who was press secretary for Minister Caroline Proulx before running, explains that it is not an order from the party to avoid debates. She adds that she had many invitations and had to make choices.

She adds that preparing for a debate often takes a full day, which represents a lot of time investment during an election campaign where the days are numbered.
Ms. Dionne did, however, participate in the electoral debate which took place on September 15 at Cegep of Rivière-du-Loup. She will also be present at the one organized by the Chamber of Commerce of the MRC of Rivière-du-Loup on Tuesday.
In the riding of Rimouski, Maïté Blanchette-Vézina for her part confirmed its participation in a debate organized by Radio-Canada and the Cégep de Rimouski to be held on Tuesday.
