La crèche Colette Zanettacci a succédé à un jardin d'enfants et une halte garderie, avenue Saint-Lazare. Le parc Edith-Piaf offre un environnement de rêve aux enfants.
Few childcare facilities are lucky enough to be located in the middle of a wooded park. On Avenue Saint-Lazare, the Colette Zannettacci crèche opened on January 2 in the heart of Parc Édith-Piaf. This allows it to develop an educational project around a semi-open-air reception.
“This will stimulate the children's curiosity and allow them to fully flourish, explains the director, Ms. Faulle. We started to have the children sleep outside during their nap and we observed a better quality of sleep.“

Seeing young children rubbing shoulders with the neighborhood's residents in a park is the connection that we seek to create.”
Homage to Colette Zannettacci
Only the old Montpellier residents remember Colette Zannettacci, who was a doctor and communist elected official in the city from 1977 to 2008.
Her daughter Monique paid her a vibrant tribute. “She was born in Algeria, as was her future husband Paul, and they both shared communist convictions, she recalled. They fought for Algerian independence, but there was never any hatred in their fight."
In Montpellier, she was elected by the majority, alongside Georges Frêche and Hélène Mandroux, for 31 years. Deputy mayor in charge of early childhood, she worked at the Maternal and Child Protection Department.
“She was a humanist elected official who devoted her life to her ideals and her family”, recalled Michaël Delafosse.
“My mother had three children, she loved music and was a member of the Friends of the Fabre Museum”, her daughter continued. Colette died in February 2024 following a long illness, after having “struggled all her life”.
A plan for 300 new places
After major work, this structure covers 464 m2, in the middle of 380 m2 of planted outdoor spaces. It brings together the “Le Boutons d’Or” kindergarten and the “Les Coquelicots” daycare center while offering five additional places. It offers 55 places in total, including 15 for babies.
“No crèche was built between 2012 and 2020 and we are very behind. Hence the plan to create 300 new places for 0-6 year olds that we launched in 2020”, specifies the mayor.
This €1.80 million project was financed by the City (€793,685), the Caf (€587,500), the State Green Fund (€408,815) and the Department (€10,000).
