The closure of a slaughterhouse in Saint-Agapit threatens dozens of jobs

The slaughterhouse will close on April 21.

Dozens jobs could be lost as the Exceldor cooperative closes the Agribio slaughterhouse located in Saint-Agapit in Chaudière-Appalaches.

Agribio specialized in specialty slaughter: force-fed ducks, poultry and backyard birds. Sixty employees work at the slaughterhouse, which will officially close on April 21.

Times are indeed tough in the industry. Exceldor claims to have recorded monthly losses of $100,000 for the past few months.

The cooperative claims that meetings will be organized with employees, and that positions will be offered to them in various ;other establishments in the region, notably the Saint-Anselme slaughterhouse.

The mayor of the municipality, Yves Gingras, refused our requests for interviews .
