Every year on July 12 the Orthodox Church celebrates the Day of Peter and Paul. The day is named in honor of the Holy apostles Peter and Paul, who preached Christianity around the world and martyred for her. July 12 and ends Petrov post.
The Orthodox Church in the memory day of these saints praised the spiritual strength of St. Peter and the mind of St. Paul. In Peter glorified the image of that despised the Lord and repented, and in Paul — the image resisted the preaching of the Lord, and then believed.
In Ukraine this holiday is especially revered. People were prepared for it in advance: suggest orders to homes and backyards, decorated towels of the wall and the corner icons, making bouquets and wreaths from various wild flowers, which then went on to serve in the Church. Housewives cook a festive lunch, which was tortillas, which is popularly called mandarini, in honor of the world travels of the Holy apostles Peter and Paul.
It was the custom in this holiday to throw parties, dance and swing on the swings. Sometimes playing a game with guessing the guys walked among the girls, covering his face with handkerchiefs. Guess the predicted soon to be married.
This day is traditionally it was customary to have a celebratory family dinners and spend time talking with friends on the nature.
One of the main traditions of the holiday, it was customary to “watch the sun”. It was youth entertainment. The villagers gathered together and went to the outskirts of the village, chose the high place and gazed up at the heavens, that they might see the sunrise. The night before these young people were burning fires, which prepared the porridge, danced and had fun. Another traditional celebration was considered “the game wedding”.
