As the Universe expands, the gas and dust will become so rarefied that they will no longer form clouds of star formation and, accordingly, new stars will not appear.

    In about 100 trillion years, only white dwarfs, neutron stars and black holes will remain in space. After a number of years, which can be represented as one followed by 43 zeros, only black holes will remain in space. And after a number of years, which can be imagined as one followed by 100 zeros, black holes will also disappear.

    After that, nothing will ever happen in the Universe and nothing else will appear. Complete darkness and cold will come.

    Another theory called the Big Rip says that the death of the Universe will come much earlier. According to this theory, dark energy will not just expand the Universe, but will eventually tear matter itself apart.

First, clusters of galaxies will merge together, then the galaxies themselves, and after that all the stars. And all the while, the temperature of the universe will rise until the remaining stars become so hot that they simply evaporate.

    Adherents of this theory believe that such events will begin in a few billion years. But some argue that a similar compression process will begin as early as 100 million years. In any case, the whole process of turning vast space into nothingness will take approximately 1 billion years.

    The last theory might be the most troubling of the list, as the death of the universe could come at literally any moment. This theory is called the False Vacuum Disintegration Hypothesis or Big Cotton.

    In this case, one small point in space, which will go into a lower energy state will result in a vacuum-breaking wave that travels at the speed of light and destroys everything in its path. People on Earth will not even be able to see this in advance until this wave crashes into our planet.

    Scientists believe that in one of the scenarios for the development of subsequent events, the Earth and all life will not be destroyed, but they will have to live under conditions of completely different laws of physics. But in the worst case, all matter will be destroyed.

    Some scientists believe that such a development of events is almost impossible, others say that this could happen in billions of years, and still others argue that we already live in a new physics and it has already happened. At the same time, the Higgs field may be more stable than we think, and such a death of the universe is impossible.
