Les dirigeants de Groupama Méditerranée, engagés dans la sensibilisation de la préservation de la matière eau, à travers la fondation et le fonds Clapoty.
In December 2023, the insurance group launched a foundation and a fund dedicated to supporting regional initiatives aimed at preserving water, both fresh and salty.
Romain Tanguy, CEO of Groupama Méditerranée, took stock of the commitments made last year by the Water Foundation, created by the insurer in December 2023. A foundation that had been associated with another, complementary creation, the Clapoty Fund. Both have enabled the institution to support initiatives in favor of preserving water resources in the region.
“The Mediterranean coast is one of the regions most exposed to climatic hazards”, he recalls, accompanying the report. A report that shows the support of six projects by the foundation and two by the fund. “It seemed obvious to us to tackle water issues, where this resource is a daily concern”, he added.

The latter has allocated a total budget of 500,000 euros over the next five years.
Last year, she supported several projects. For three years, she has been supporting students from the University of Montpellier, who are organizing a “Hackathon Water4Future”, an international competition aimed at thinking about and finding solutions to water issues. She also supported the conference on marine connectivity “I-Marco”, held in Montpellier by the CNRS UMR Marbec laboratory.
She also supported the Posidonia seagrass replanting project, held by the NaturDive association, based in Cannes, in the Alpes-Maritimes, as well as the water resource center “Aquathèque”, supported by the Maison régionale de l’eau, based in Barjols, in the Var. It should also announce, on February 3, the identity of the two winners of the call for projects for the restoration of wetlands, launched jointly with the NaïaGaïa endowment fund. One of the winners is based in the Pyrénées-Orientales.
As for the Clapoty Fund, it is relying on the 35,000 euros provided in 2024 by Groupama Méditerranée, to support projects, with the help of other partners. “This is the ambition of this fund, to increase project financing thanks to the support of other partners, which we wish to unite”, insists André Daziano, president of the Clapoty Fund.
Groupama Méditerranée currently brings together 9 regional funds, spread across 14 departments in the south of France. As of December 31, 2023, the group had committed the sum of €73.6 million gross to cover climate-related losses (storms, harvests and natural disasters). “The agricultural market represents a quarter of our portfolio, confides Romain Tanguy. We are the only insurance territory that has such a challenge to take up”.
“It is to meet such challenges that we support all projects that concern both fresh and salt water”, adds Géraldine Bullot-Beaufils, General Delegate of the Foundation and the Fund.
