The heads of cultural institutions appealed to the government with request for support during the period of quarantine
Heads of Ukrainian cultural institutions have appealed to the government asking them not to allow reduction of expenditure on cultural projects, to redistribute them to support the institutional activities of cultural organizations, as well as to maintain funding for cultural projects.
As reported at the “Mystetskyi Arsenal”, the Ukrainian institutions of culture will not be able to overcome the crisis that has arisen in connection with the quarantine measures and the potential economic crisis. Abrupt cessation support will devalue existing investments (in particular co-financing from international partners), will trigger a deskilling and loss of personnel.
“The refusal of public events – exhibitions, concerts, film screenings, performances, etc. – instantly leads to a rapid drop of incomes of all who invested time, effort and money to culture in Ukraine was available, high quality, and its projects are well organized. Ukrainian cultural institutions and independent producers now find themselves without resources which would allow to pay salaries, to Fund emergency or high priority restoration work and even more urgent need as the protection of the state of the Ukrainian Museum Fund”, – the statement says.
Full text of the letter can be found here. It was signed by the Director of “Mystetskyi Arsenal”, the Ukrainian cultural Foundation, the Ukrainian Institute of books, the Ukrainian Institute, Dovzhenko Centre.
As previously reported, Ukrainian musicians addressed the President with a petition to support the music industry.
