As the “O2” portal reminds, a few weeks ago the availability of sugar in many stores was quite limited. Some large retail chains have even decided to introduce a sales limit for this product. Prices skyrocketed sharply. How is the sugar situation today? Is the worst behind us?

More accessible sugar?

At the end of July, many sugar stores were empty, and sugar was available, its price skyrocketed. Some retail chains decided to introduce a sales limit in time to ensure that as many customers as possible have the opportunity to buy.

The first chain that decided to introduce rationing of goods. Lidl, Aldi, Carrefour, Netto, and Auchan also decided to take a similar step later. Today the sugar situation seems much better, at least in terms of product availability. A week ago (September 7), the Biedronka chain decided to lift the limit.

Two days later, Carrefour stores also decided to take a similar step. We still deal with sugar rationing in Netto stores. Network representatives indicate that they still see the “threat of wholesale purchases” and that they do not decide to lift the limit.

Although the availability of sugar has increased, unfortunately it is more expensive than it was time ago. For a kilogram of sugar in stores under the Biedronka brand, we have to pay PLN 4.99. We will buy a kilogram of sugar more expensive in Carrefour – here it costs PLN 5.49. At Stokrotka, the price of a kilo is PLN 5.29.
