The Liberal Party of Quebec fails to field a full team of candidates | Elections Quebec 2022
Liberal leader Dominique Anglade said his legal team would look into the case.
The Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ) will not be able to field candidates in the province's 125 ridings for the October 3 election.
The political party did not manage to submit a valid candidacy in time in the riding of Matane-Matapédia.
This is the first time in recent history that the PLQ does not have a complete team. The party is the only one of the five main political parties in the running not to present a candidate in each of the ridings.
Élections Québec indicates that the Liberal candidate did not succeed in submit a valid application by the end of the application period at 2:00 p.m. today.
This is Harley Lounsbury. At the end of the afternoon, his page on the PLQ site, as well as his Twitter account, were inaccessible.
“I don't have details, but there are going to be serious discussions internally.
—Dominique Anglade, leader of the PLQ
The fact that the PLQ failed to present a candidate in each riding is “unacceptable”, added Ms. Anglade .
At the start of the day, the party had failed to fill six constituencies, but Ms. Anglade had certified that her party would field 125 candidates in the next ballot.
The Liberal team indicates that its team of lawyers will look into the matter and that the party could challenge the decision of the Chief Electoral Officer of Quebec.
Another riding, that of Joliette, was analyzed during the day. But in this constituency the Liberal candidacy was endorsed by the DGEQ.
