In unusual circumstances in the background of the pandemic celebrate this time of the Muslim holiday of completion of the pilgrimage (Hajj) Eid-al-Adha or Kurban Bayram. A few of the thousands of pilgrims and local residents were able to perform in the Mecca of the final rituals of the Hajj (last year there were about 2.5 million). The end of the Hajj is marked by the sacrifice of sheep, goats, cows or camels, the meat of which is usually divided into three parts: themselves, relatives and the needy.
Morning prayer in honor of Eid al Adha at a mosque transformed into a Cathedral of sacred Sofia in Istanbul was attended by thousands of Turkish Muslims:
– It was my childhood dream, – says one of them. – Not being able to pray here was great sadness and disappointment. And now, when Hagia Sophia was opened for us, it is happiness!
Is like a dream! My heart is full. It’s so good, it’s very, very good.. Today it’s just… just… I can’t put it into words.
The feast of the completion of pilgrimage for the Muslims and one of the most popular in the countries where they live. It is usually celebrated for four days in a row, but in Turkey, for example, it lasts 10 days, and in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan – three. Date determined by the lunar-solar calendar and moves annually.
Because of the pandemic in many places, this time Eid-al-Adha (Kurban Bayram) celebrated in mosques without large concentrations of believers.
