The Internet discovered a database of millions of users of the popular messenger Telegram. Database, the amount of which reaches about 900 MB, consists of the unique user identifiers and their corresponding phone numbers, 3Dnews reports.
The message is supplemented with images, which suggests that the database might contain information affecting 40 million users Telegram. The source notes that the press service of the messenger confirmed the existence of the database, adding that the collection of such information is done by hackers with the help of built-in function to import contacts upon registration.
“These bases usually contain the line “phone number — the user ID of the Telegram”. They are going through the abuse of built-in function to import contacts when users are registering. Unfortunately, no service that allows users to chat with contacts from your phonebook, can not completely rule out such a bust,” — commented the press service of the Telegram.
The press service noted that most of the data from the mentioned database has already lost its relevance. The report said that 84 % of the data collected until mid-2019. About 70 % of the accounts database are users from Iran, and 30 % — from Russia.
Last year in the Telegram there is the option “Who can add me to your contacts by phone number”. For ordinary users this tool is not particularly valuable, while for activists of any protest movements it is very useful because it allows you to hide the connection between the user account and his phone number.
