After very long months of waiting, the doctors at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital were finally back! Last night, the Season Premiere of season 4 of The Resident was broadcast on Fox and as much to say that our affection for this series is stronger than ever. This very first episode addressed the coronavirus pandemic and paid tribute to all the healthcare workers who find themselves on the front lines. However, in parallel with this terrible period which echoes the real world, the writers transported us to a more joyful and hopeful period beyond the pandemic… “A normal life” which was once our daily life and which now appears as a distant memory …

It was an hour of fear and loss, but also of love, hope, community, triumph, celebration and joy. And The Resident hit the right chord for a start to the season, especially giving us the long-awaited CoNic wedding. After four years of ups and downs, fans were rewarded with a sweet marriage. And after the year they’ve had, they more than deserve their romantic and down-to-earth wedding with family and friends. Kicking off this Season Premiere with the moments leading up to their exchange of vows started things off on a pleasant note.. This meant that even as we returned to that dramatic time at the height of the pandemic, we were going to have something light and joyful to hang onto.

Friendship was at the heart of this very first episode and the moment between Nic and Mina during the preparation for the wedding was special. Nic lost his sister, but she also found a form of brotherhood and a unique bond with Mina because of her similar losses. For his part, Conrad shared this moment with Devon and their relationship is so beautiful to see. She has changed so much over the past four years, as has her relationship with her father. In addition, the ceremony was placed under the sign of emotion … CoNic devoted part of their marriage to honoring their lost friends and colleagues, and their vows suited them perfectly. Additionally, this Season Premiere of Season 4 of The Resident was marked by a long-awaited kiss, that of Mina and AJ! This moment warmed the hearts of the fans.

The flashbacks to the coronavirus pandemic were heartbreaking. The fact that a beloved nurse, Hundley, contracts the virus and borders on death brought a personal touch that bowled all characters (and the audience). The emotion was even more intense when Devon had to deal with his father’s illness and his death from the coronavirus while he was miles away from him. And it evoked the loneliness and sadness that comes with not being able to sit down with a loved one. This Season Premiere of Season 4 of The Resident was perfectly balanced and successful. The rest promises to be just as intense.
