So the first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, executive producer Patrick McKay has announced that season 2 is not ready. to happen.

It would seem that despite its staggering investment of some 465 million dollars(not counting the 250 million disbursed for the repurchase of the rights), Prime Video did not really enchant the spectators with its new adaptation of the universe of Tolkien. Between its lack of dramatic power and its plot sometimes considered too slow, the early assessment of Rings of Power turns out to be rather mixed despite a very strong start.

The series should nevertheless continue to run for four more seasons and while the first is not yet finished airing, the second salvo of episodes has been filming since October 3 at BrayStudios. If this recent announcement had something to give hope to aficionados of the Rings of Powerthat the second season quickly invests the catalog of the platform, the latter may well be disappointed.

As a reminder, the filming of the first season had started in February 2020 in New Zealand. Due to the pandemic, it had to be quickly interrupted and only ended in August 2021. If the seasons to come could have been linked together more quickly now that the health context is more lenient, the series however, shouldn't be back anytime soon.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter and relayed by ScreenRant, screenwriter Patrick McKay, who is heading the series alongside J.D. Payne, affirmed that at least two years will be necessary for the production of this new season. Viewers will therefore have to be patient until at least 2024.

A delay which should thus give the screenwriters time to work their plot for a long time and, ideally, better meet the expectations of fans of the universe developed by Tolkien. At least that's what Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, said in an interview relayed by Esquire:

“We We're going to do our best to make this season happen as quickly as possible. We want there to be as little time as possible between each season, but we also want to be very demanding. So it will take as long as it takes. however, has a certain urgency to produce quickly, which is why Payne and McKay continued to write tirelessly. We go fast”.

In the meantime, the first seven episodes of the series are currently available since September 2, 2022, and the last episode of the season will be broadcast this Friday on the platform.
