At the moment, only three enterprises produce passenger cars in Russia. Despite the increase in production of cars by AvtoVAZ, the rate of decline in the industry remains very high.
The Russian auto industry continues to show impressive rates of decline. In August, it amounted to almost 70% compared to the same period last year. This is evidenced by Rosstat data.
Over the past month, Russian auto enterprises produced 24.7 thousand cars against about 80 thousand in August 2021. At the same time, compared to July, there was an increase of 27.3%.
The increase in auto production was mainly due to the production at VAZ of “simplified” Lada models without ABS and airbags. In addition to the plant in Tolyatti, only two more enterprises operate in the Russian Federation under sanctions – Ulyanovsk UAZ and Haval in the Tula region.
In total, 325,000 passenger cars have been produced in Russia since the beginning of the year – 64.6% less than a year earlier. The production volumes in the RSFSR were approximately the same in the 70s, and even in the 90s the Russian auto industry felt better.
In the segment of commercial vehicles, the drop is less – 18.6% (91.7 thousand cars) . There is also a decrease of 23.1% (up to 163 thousand units) in the production of internal combustion engines.
A cardinal improvement in the situation is not yet predicted. Global automakers continue to leave Russia. Toyota recently announced the final closure of its Russian plant, and Mazda plans to pull out of a joint venture with Sollers. In addition, Isuzu recently announced the imminent cessation of production in the Russian Federation.
