Quebec Sûbec Investigating Arson in Wôlinak

Firefighters intervened early Saturday to put out the fire that destroyed the garage of a band councilor in Wôlinak.

The investigation into the arson fire that occurred in Wôlinak on Saturday is being handed over to the Major Crimes Unit of the Sûreté du Québec.

< p class="e-p">The Wôlinak police, who had opened their investigation, called on the support of the Sûreté du Québec on Saturday evening. The two police forces will continue to cooperate in this matter.

The fire destroyed part of the property of Martine Bergeron-Milette, elected councilor on the Abenaki Council of Wôlinak. Her garage was completely razed by flames.

Ms. Bergeron-Milette believes the fire could be an act of retaliation after she and two other councilors voted for the suspension on Tuesday with pay from the Director General of the Abenakis of Wôlinak Council.
