There is still a lack of employees for the elections in Mégantic
Twenty substitute positions need to be filled in the riding of Mégantic.
Even if the situation is far from critical, there is a lack still staff in anticipation of election day next Monday and Elections Quebec is calling for candidates. Seven ridings in Quebec still do not have the necessary staff, including that of Mégantic.
In this electoral division, five deputy returning officers are missing: two in the Haut-Saint-François region and three in the Lac-Mégantic region. These positions, however, are close to being filled. It is above all the substitutes, about twenty in all, who are sought.
The returning officer in the riding of Mégantic, Jean Collin, assures that the recruitment procedures started since Thursday bear their fruits.
We are confident because we have a list of names. We called on people who were already involved and asked them to tell people they knew. There was word of mouth, we had a generally positive reaction, but it is our substitutes that we want in good numbers to palliate any eventuality.
“Two people contacted us this morning to tell us that they had tested positive for COVID-19 and would not be able to attend. The objective is to create banks of substitutes throughout the constituency. »
— Jean Collin, returning officer in Mégantic
Some people hired as substitutes will know on polling day whether or not their services will be required. They are asked to be available on Monday morning until 10:10:30 a.m., and are paid four hours for the time they are on standby in case they have to report to work if people withdraw on same morning.
Those interested will be required to complete a four and a half hour online training course. Elections Quebec offers salaries ranging from $16.95 to $19.94 per hour and pays for all training necessary for employment.
Interested persons are not not required to live in the riding, but must in particular have had a domicile in Quebec for at least six months.
It is possible to apply online.
