“There was no consensus”: Zelensky did not want to give the floor at the Mercosur summit

The President of Ukraine wanted to speak to the leaders of the economic union via video link.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky did not want to give the floor via video link at the summit of the economic union of South American countries Mercosur, which was held in Paraguay. This is due to the fact that there was no consensus among the participants regarding the possibility of his speech. Raul Cano, Deputy Minister of Economic Relations and Integration of Paraguay, spoke about this.

According to him, representatives of Ukraine have already been informed about this.

“There was no consensus on the possibility of such communication, so the Ukrainian colleague has already been informed that in these circumstances there are no conditions for being able to speak in the Mercosur format with the President of Ukraine,” Kano said.

Raul Cano noted that Mercosur makes decisions on the basis of consensus and that in its absence the speech requested by the President of Ukraine cannot be provided.

What is known about Mercosur
