IN BRIEF

  • This Tuesday, January 14, Apolline de Malherbe received Olivier Faure
  • But now her exchanges with the first secretary of the PS have turned in vinegar
  • Indeed, the journalist simply interrupted her interview

It's an important day for François Bayrou. One month after being appointed Prime Minister, the mayor of Pau will have to present his general policy to the deputies on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. A statement that must satisfy his opponents, who are threatening to censure him and his government. Questioned that same morning, Olivier Faure, first secretary of the PS, was the guest by Apolline de Malherbe on BFMTV.

But here is the interview that took a strange turn. Indeed, the politician indicated that after his meeting at Matignon with François Bayrou, their exchanges continued by “telephone”. In order not to censor the government, “we have made a proposal”, indicates Olivier Faure. According to him, “if the Prime Minister definitively accepts it, it is up to him to announce it”.

Apolline de Malherbe regrets Olivier Faure's silence

Apolline de Malherbe then wanted to know more about the content of this proposal. “In this sentence, is there the word ‘suspension’ ?” she asks. To which Olivier Faure replies: “I will not answer you at any…”, he tries to answer before being cut off by the journalist. “Çit's no use coming in these cases”,she says to him, looking him in the eyes.

But Olivier Faure doesn't want to give details: “Maybe it's very frustrating for you, I agree…”. Visibly annoyed, Apolline de Malherbe interrupts the interview. “You know what, when you want to talk again you'll come back, we'll first – I'll give you the floor again in a moment – but there's Charlie Darlin who's speaking”.

The journalist cuts their exchanges short

Indeed, the sailor, big winner of the Vendée Globe, was on the BFMTV microphone. For several long minutes, Olivier Faure must wait on the set of the continuous news channel to listen to the first reaction of the navigator.

On returning to the set, Apolline de Malherbe therefore resumes her interview. “Olivier Faure, I haven't forgotten that just before Charlie Darlin expressed his emotion and pride, you were perhaps being ‘hidden’. You say: ‘I made a proposal, I can't tell you what's in it’. What I want to know Olivier Faure, is what are you going to conclude ?”. For the first secretary of the PS, there would be a strong chance that his proposal would be accepted by François Bayrou.
