"They really feel good here": the Maison des femmes de Montpellier joins forces with the CAF and the CPAM to provide more help to victims of violence

CPAM, Caf, Maison des Femmes et CHU unissent leurs forces. Midi Libre – Florence Guilhem

The CPAM and the Caf de l’Hérault are committed alongside the Maison des femmes de Montpellier to facilitate access to health rights and social benefits for women who are victims of violence.

Physical abuse, moral harassment, rape, deprivation of care or financial… Violence against women has many faces, but the deep trauma it leaves, as well as the loss of bearings and the fear of not being able to escape this spiral are shared by all. And those who manage to escape it are often exposed to precariousness.

It is to help these women overcome their trauma, support them in their journey and facilitate their access to medical rights and social benefits that the Maison des femmes Agnes Mc Laren, created by the Montpellier University Hospital and in service since July 1, has contacted the CPAM and the Caf de l’Hérault to establish a partnership. This was made official on January 29th with the signing of an agreement.

“This is the principle of the one-stop shop”

Until now, women who entered the door of this reception, listening and immediate medical care center could benefit from health consultations, legal advice, assistance with filing a simplified complaint and various workshops to reconnect with their bodies and self-esteem.

Now, thanks to this partnership with the CPAM and the CAF, all the players in the care and assistance that can be provided to these women will act together. “This is the principle of the one-stop shop, even if we do not rule out the idea of redirecting some of these women, depending on their situation, to our partners“, specifies Justine Barcelo, head of the Maison des femmes Agnes Mc Laren.

Easier access to rights

The agreement signed between the different players will allow us to pass an important milestone. As the director of the CAF of Hérault, Thierry Mathieu, points out, “it is important to secure the path of these women and their rights, because pensions are often part of the conflict” . To do this, the CAF is committed to providing them with immediate assistance and to financial intermediation, in particular by facilitating their access to the services of Aripa (Agency for the recovery of unpaid maintenance payments) as part of its “separation pathway”. The allowance fund is also considering setting up a childcare system for young children at the Maison des femmes.

For its part, the CPAM of Hérault, by giving these women access to the Vitale card, offers them personalized support in the care pathway, including finding health professionals, helping them manage medical quotes, etc. “We also provide a telephone hotline every Monday and remain open to the possibility of a physical presence at the Maison des femmes, if the need arises. Finally, we have proposed opening our “Partners Space”. This is a computer tool that allows secure exchanges between the CPAM and the social worker at the Maison des femmes and on individual situations“, explains its director, Philippe Trotabas.

As many actions that will not be too many in view of the attendancecrescendo of this house. “The consultations are in constant development. From July to December, 152 women victims of violence were welcomed, which represents 10% of women in this situation in the department, and half of them continue to come“, indicates Justine Barcelo.

The only problem: this house is in Montpellier, it is too far from rural areas. “Our idea would be to open a branch in rural cantons to be able to cover the entire department“, hopes the co-president of the Maison des femmes, Professor Pierre Boulot. And to announce that a similar house is in the pipeline in Béziers.
