The ability of chocolate to lift mood received further scientific confirmation. Scientists from different countries have found that dark chocolate may be an effective means to prevent depressive disorders.
That dark chocolate varieties can be used as an antidepressant, indicate the results of the study, which was attended by thirteen and a half thousand adult citizens of the United States of America. The researchers analyzed data collected in 2007-2008 and 2013-2014, and found a correlation between the consumption of dark chocolate and a manifestation of symptoms of depression.
Interestingly, the statistical correlation found by the researchers, is only for dark chocolate — that is, milk or white chocolate can be used as a means for the prevention of depression. What exactly lurk the amazing ability of the chocolate with a high cocoa content scientists don’t know, but it is assumed that all the matter in the catechin and epicatechin — nutrients that affect the heart, blood vessels and brain.
“Chocolate also contains tryptophan and tyrosine, these compounds have a positive effect on the biological mechanisms involved in the synthesis of serotonin and dopamine. Accordingly, the chocolate really can be recommended for the prevention of depressive disorders. But of course they can’t replace a full-depressants” — note the authors.
