Extinguishing the fire, as explained in the Moscow Region Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, is complicated due to the collapsed roof.

“Due to the collapse of the roof and instant access to oxygen, strong convective currents were formed. As a result, the fire quickly spread over a large area,” the rescuers said.

70 firefighters and 20 pieces of equipment were involved in the elimination of the fire.

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has already opened a criminal case due to a violation of equipment safety during welding work at the facility.

As specified, the version of arson was also initially considered, but it was not confirmed.

So far, one dead is known – an employee of the shopping center.

Because of the fire in the area of the shopping center, an increased concentration of phenol was recorded. It is also noted that there are residues of combustion products and a characteristic smell in the air.
