Samsung’s upcoming top models should appear in January 2021. First render images of the S21 or S30 series indicate that the massive camera hump of the S20 Ultra is retained, and even appears even larger. Equipment details have already been leaked extensively.
After Samsung has unveiled its top models of the first half of the year between February and March in recent years, rumors suggest that the launch of the next generation will be brought forward to January. This is reported by the leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer, also known Onleaks, who has reliably unveiled devices from various smartphone manufacturers before their official presentation for years with a high hit rate. In addition, various leakers have already published many authentic-sounding specifications.
Samsung Galaxy S21 or S30: 3 models expected
Hemmerstoffer had already published numerous render images of the upcoming Samsung high-end models on the Voice platform in mid-October. The images suggest that the Ultra model is once again given a massive camera element with four lenses, which apparently could even be larger than the Galaxy S20 Ultra (test) and protrudes from the edge of the case almost to the center of the device. If you believe Hemmerstoffer, the camera element, which according to Leaker Max Weinbach has apparently become part of the frame, contains two telephoto / periscope lenses in addition to wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle lenses. As the blog 91mobiles reports, citing the well-known leaker Ishan Agarwal, Samsung will install a 108 megapixel sensor in its 2021 top model, based on the 2020 S20 Ultra 5G, which is to be accompanied by a 16 and 12 megapixel sensor . According to Weinbach, it is a new generation of the 108 megapixel sensor. On the front it will be equipped with a 40-megapixel selfie cam.

The camera hump is enormous: This is what the Samsung Galaxy S21 / S30 Ultra should look like. (Image: Onleaks; Voice)
In the normal S21 and S21 Plus or S30 – the official names are still unclear – the smaller camera element only comprises three lenses, each with 12-megapixel sensors for wide and ultra-wide angle cameras and a 64-megapixel telephoto lens, the LED flash is in Difference to S21 / S30 Ultra located next to it.
The front of the next Ultra model is to have a new LTPO display that is slightly curved around the sides, with a 6.8-inch diagonal and a maximum brightness of 1,600 nits. However, it is less curved around the sides than with the S20 Ultra. According to Agarwal, the S21 Ultra will have a Dynamic AMOLED 2X that could deliver a refresh rate of up to 144 Hertz – Weinbach assumes 120 Hertz. According to Agarwal’s information, the Ultra has the model number SM-G998U, internally it is referred to as O3 or P3 (Weinbach).
The 120 Hertz screens without dynamic adjustment of the refresh rate of the two other S21 models are rather flat and deliver an FHD Plus resolution. According to Onleaks, the display of the normal S21 has a diagonal of 6.2 inches. Agwarwal does not go into the plus model, but Weinbach speaks of a display diagonal of 6.7 inches. The Galaxy S20 Plus also has a 6.7-inch display.

Samsung Galaxy S21 / S30 Ultra probably with stylus support
According to Hemmerstoffers and Weinbach’s sources, the ultra model will also receive support for a stylus that was previously reserved for the Note models. In contrast to the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra (test), the S Pen, as Samsung calls its digital pen, is not housed in the casing of the smartphone. It is also unclear whether the pen will be part of the scope of delivery or whether it will have to be purchased separately.

Hemmerstoffer does not offer any further details on the equipment, but he does mention the dimensions: The Ultra model should be 165.1 x 75.6 x 8.9 millimeters in size. At the camera hump it is a stately 10.8 millimeters thick. The S21 / S30 measures 151.7 x 71.2 x 7.9 millimeters and nine millimeters on the camera.
Agarwal knows more: According to the leaker, the S21 Ultra will be equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery – the S20 Ultra 5G also has the same power rating. Weinbach also names battery capacities for the S21 and S21 Plus: They should be equipped with 4,000 and 4,800 mAh batteries, respectively.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888, which was announced at the beginning of December, should also be installed as a processor. At least Samsung should use the chip in the USA and China. In Europe we can count on Samsung’s own Exynos 2100 processor instead, the Qualcomms SoC for the first time this year could trump. So far, Samsung’s Exynos SoCs (System-on-a-Chip) were considered the poorer choice. The new Exynos processor is said to be more energy efficient than its predecessor. Both chips will apparently have an integrated 5G modem. In addition, the Ultra is said to be equipped with the new Wi-Fi 6E standard, which, according to Samsung, should be around twice as fast as Wi-Fi 6.
Ultra broadband support (UWB) is also on board in the Galaxy S21 Plus and Galaxy S21 Ultra. Among other things, it should track Samsung’s as yet unannounced SmartThings tags. The S21 Plus and Ultra should also provide support for digital car keys via UWB.
Samsung Galaxy S21, S21 Plus and S21 Ultra: How expensive should they get?
If the new Galaxy S models, as reported by Hemmerstoffer, should hit the market in January, the launch would be closer than ever to Apple’s market launch of the iPhone 12 series. The first two iPhone 12 models have been on the market since the end of October, the iPhone 12 Pro Max and Mini have been available since mid-November.
According to Weinbach, Samsung could not only bring its new top models earlier, but also offer them a little cheaper. It is said that the South Korean manufacturer wants to make its devices more competitive in this way and thus to cope with the recession and the global pandemic in which we find ourselves. If you believe the South Korean blog Android Headlines, the smallest S21 model could cost between $ 849 and $ 899 in retail – Samsung is charging $ 999 for the S20 at launch. A similar price reduction is also expected for the Galaxy S21 Plus: According to rumors, it will start between $ 1,049 and $ 1,099. Samsung asked for the Galaxy S20 Plus from $ 1,199 in the spring.
According to the source of Android Headlines, the Ultra model of the Galaxy S21 series will cost between $ 1,249 and $ 1,299. The Galaxy S20 Ultra started at a price of 1,399 dollars in the USA – in Europe it cost a hefty 1,349 euros.
