The federal prison at Stony Mountain is located about ten kilometers north of the perimeter of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Two British Columbians have been arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) for delivering drugs to Stony Mountain federal prison in Manitoba using a drone.
At 3:20 a.m. July 3, Stonewall RCMP, where the correctional facility is located, were alerted that a drone had flown over the prison and landed there. In addition, a suspicious vehicle was also reported on a country road near the prison, the RCMP said in a press release.
Several officers attended the scene and began searching for the suspect vehicle. As the vehicle approached, an officer noticed a drone in the back seat. The two occupants of the vehicle were arrested, police said.
Meanwhile, prison officers searched for where the drone had landed in the prison. Once they found the location, they also recovered a package containing what police believe to be methamphetamine and fentanyl.
The previous day, employees at Stony Mountain Institution also reported seeing a drone and finding a similar package, RCMP add.

The July 4, a resident discovered another suspicious package.
The package was handed over to the police. It contained controlled substances and was packaged in such a way that it could be transported by drone. It matched packages found at Stony Mountain Institution the previous two days, federal police continue.
Two days later, Winnipeg police came in after having received a call about a rental unit on Airbnb, Sherbrooke Avenue, in the Manitoba capital.
At the scene, the officers discovered a firearm as well as a large quantity of methamphetamine.
During the investigation, the police realized that the apartment had been rented by the two suspects, who had not returned to the scene because they had been arrested a few days earlier by Stonewall RCMP.
Two 20-year-old and 22-year-old men from Vancouver and Burnaby, respectively, are facing multiple charges. accusation and are still detained.
