Two people lose their lives in a maple grove in La Trinité-des-Monts

Two people died on Saturday in La Trinité-des-Monts.

The community of La Trinité-des-Monts is in mourning, as two sixties lost their lives on Saturday in a maple grove.

Berthier Rioux, from La Trinité-des-Monts, and Mario Lechasseur, from Rimouski, were found dead at the end of the day on Saturday in a cistern used to collect maple sap.

Emergency services were called around 5:30 p.m. to a maple grove located on Chemin de la Rivière-Verte Ouest in La Trinité-des-Monts.

The police indicate that resuscitation maneuvers were attempted on the two victims, before they were transported to a hospital center where they were declared dead.

The Municipality of La Trinité-des-Monts is a 35-minute drive from Rimouski.

The SQ confirms that the inquest will be transferred to the Coroner's Office to determine the circumstances and causes of death.

According Police believe it could be carbon monoxide poisoning as the two men were carrying out work inside the cistern. The CNESST has been notified.
