Ukraine does not agree with this decision: the Ministry of Culture on the cancellation of the Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine

According to the head of the department Alexander Tkachenko, Ukraine was presented with a fact, not given the opportunity to discuss other options, which could suit all parties.

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine has reacted to the statement of the European Language Union that Ukraine will not be able to host Eurovision next year. Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkachenko announced this on his telegram channel.

“Ukraine does not agree with the nature of such a decision – when we were presented with a fact without discussing the possibilities of other options,” Tkachenko said. The Ministry of Culture believes that there is every reason for further negotiations in order to find a common solution that satisfies all parties.

The Minister of Culture in the post noted that the Ukrainians honestly won Eurovision 2022 and, within the specified time frame, fulfilled the necessary conditions for the process of coordinating the holding of the contest in Ukraine, namely, “provided answers and guarantees on safety standards and possible venues for the contest.”

“The holding of Eurovision-2023 in Ukraine is a powerful signal for the whole world that it supports Ukraine now,” Tkachenko believes, and notes that The Ministry of Culture will require the European Language Union to change this decision.

At the end of May, it became known that Eurovision 2023 could be held in Kyiv. According to the Deputy Chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration Mykola Povoroznyk, “the capital of Ukraine has all the necessary equipment for organizing and holding an international song contest in 2023 at the appropriate level.”

And in mid-June, Deputy Head of the Office of the President Kyrylo Tymoshenko said, that Ukraine has already begun preparations for the song contest: “The main issue is security.”
