Ukraine will shoot a biographic film about the artist Kazimir Malevich, the author of one of the most famous paintings “Black square”.
The film will be made by Daria Onishchenko (“Eastalgia”, “Forgotten”), the script was written by Daria and Anna Palenchuk. The project has been in the screenwriting laboratory of the famous European program MIDPOINT, where the filmmakers will have the opportunity to consult with the professionals of the companies Netflix and HBO.
The basis of the biopic – the story of the confrontation of abstract artist Kazimir Malevich with a well-known constructivist Vladimir Tatlin. Eccentric and extraordinary personality, attractive and charismatic men, these artists fought all his life for recognition of his work. But the more successful became Malevich, the closely watched by the NKVD.
The picture will include secrets of the life of the great artist, the story of his childhood in Ukraine, development as an artist under the influence of Ukrainian folk art, the creation of Suprematism as a new direction in art and image in the paintings of the tragedy of the Holodomor, persecution of avant-garde artists of the Soviet regime and the continuing belief that art should be free.
“Interestingly, Malevich and Tatlin are still considered by Russian artists, although they both spent their childhood in the Ukraine, spoke Ukrainian language, both sang Ukrainian songs. Tatlin still playing the bandura.
