On the Internet, pictures of the rare LuAZ-1301 were published. The SUV was planned as a successor to the famous “Volyn”, but its full-scale production could not be established. The Hyser website writes about this.
The LuAZ-1301 SUV began to be created at the Lutsk Automobile Plant in 1984. Due to financial problems in the 90s, the development of the model was delayed and its final version was ready only by 2002. They planned to produce 1000 cars a year, but in the end they managed to assemble only 43 LuAZ-1301s and the project was closed. Most of the cars are kept in factory and private collections.
Ukrainian SUV 3.6 m long could well become an inexpensive alternative to the comparable Suzuki Jimny. Its angular body was made of plastic, and many units and interior parts were taken from Tavria. There is nothing surprising in this, because Volyn also used components from Zaporozhets.
LuAZ-1301 used ZAZ engines with a volume of 1.1 liters (51 hp) and 1.2 liters (53 hp), and its maximum speed was 137 km/h. In the future, they also planned to use a 1.3-liter engine from Daewoo Sens with a capacity of 58-70 hp. c.
A mechanical 5-speed gearbox and all-wheel drive transmission parts were borrowed from VAZ. The LuAZ-1301 SUV received an independent suspension of all wheels and front disc brakes. An experimental prototype with air suspension and even a six-wheeled pickup truck with a load capacity of 800 kg were also created.
