The BMW M1 supercar was produced in a limited edition of 399 cars. The streamlined coupe is equipped with a 277-horsepower six and is capable of reaching 265 km/h.
In Munich, the legendary 1980 BMW M1 was put up for auction by RM Sotheby's. This is the only supercar in the history of the German brand and they plan to fetch up to a million dollars for it. The details of the car were revealed on the website of the auction house.
The BMW M1 mid-engined coupe was originally built for racing, but their rules required a road version. Therefore, along with 53 racing M1s, 399 production cars were produced in 1978-1981.
The BMW M1 supercar was created by Lamborghini specialists, and its appearance was developed by the famous Italian stylist Giorgetto Giugiaro from ItalDesign. The coupe features an atypical BMW wedge design with retractable headlights.
The BMW M1 is equipped with a 3.5-liter inline-six with 277 hp. With. and 5-speed manual transmission. It is capable of reaching 265 km/h and accelerating to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds.
Specifically this car is special, because it was created by the individual order of the head of the BMW M1 development team, Jochen Neerpasch. He changed owners several times, and his mileage is 63,500 km. The supercar has been restored and won numerous awards at retro car shows.
