The US drug authority FDA considers the corona vaccine from the German company Biontech and its US partner Pfizer to be highly effective.
The German biotech company BioNTech and its US partner Pfizer have cleared an important hurdle in the emergency approval of their corona vaccine in the USA. The FDA did not raise concerns about the vaccine’s use in a document released Tuesday.
Investigations have not revealed any new safety or efficacy problems. A vaccination with two doses of vaccine has proven to be highly effective in preventing confirmed cases of Covid-19 at least seven days after the last dose, officials said.
However, there is not yet enough data to draw conclusions about the safety of the vaccine in people under the age of 16, pregnant women and people with a weakened immune system. It is expected that the FDA will decide on the emergency approval of the Biontech vaccine within the next few days or weeks.
